Really naff days out
The Big Banana, Coffs Harbour, New South Wales
The Big Banana is exactly that - a massive piece of (fake) fruit and an inexplicable tourist attraction erected in the city of Coffs Harbour, NSW. Fruit lovers flock for miles to see an enlarged version of the diet staple, known for its slapstick comedy past.
Unveiled in 1964, it was the first of "Australia's Big Things" - an assortment of other larger than life monuments and tourist traps which include, are are not limited to, The Big Beer Can, The Big Axe, The Big Cigar, The Big Tennis Racquet, The Big Paperclip, The Big Macadamia Nut and, of course, The Big Boxing Crocodile.
Could this be one of the most fruitless trips out in the world? Actually, probably not...
