Adolf Hitler's death has always been a cause for speculation. Many wonder if he really did shoot himself in that fateful bunker as the second world war came to a close. Now historians have unearthed fresh 'evidence' that could prove otherwise.

The Nazi leader's skull could actually be from a woman. Hitler was said to have took a cyanide pill and shot himself in the head as the Red Army closed in. The Russians originally dug up the corpse, which was burnt and buried before declaring it as the Fuhrer's.

In 1970, the KGB cremated the remains, saving the jawbone and a portion of the bullet-holed skull. But now US archaeologist Nick Bellantoni has discovered that it actually "corresponds to a woman between the ages of 20 and 40".
