A 10am hearing on Monday morning saw police presence for the case of Mark Bridger, aged 46, being charged with murder and attempting to pervert the course of justice regarding April Jones, aged 5.
Mr. Bridger appeared at Aberystwyth magistrates almost a week after his arrest, where his personal details - his name and address - was confirmed.
According to a report by the BBC, he presided in the village of Ceinws and the charges against him (which he reportedly acknowledged) included unlawful disposal and concealment of a body.
Superintendent Ian John from Dyfed Powys police, who has been leading the investigation, is quoted by The Telegraph referring to the hearing: “Obviously, this is an unusually high profile and high risk case for us and we will take every precaution to ensure the hearing goes ahead smoothly.”
Mr. Bridger has been remanded in custody and he will go before Caernarfon Crown Court on Wednesday this week.
It is understood that 100 officers are also involved in the search for the missing five year old girl, who was last seen near her house in Machynlleth, Wales.
According to reports, approximately 1,000 people partook in a ceremony on Sunday in honour of April Jones.
