Boris Johnson got stuck on a 1000-foot long Olympics zip wire August 1, leaving him dangling in mid-air held only by his harness.
The London Mayor was game for a laugh, but was heard shouting: “Get me a rope, get me a ladder!”
Boris, who was wearing a blue safety helmet, had to be hauled by organisers for the last 65 feet of the ride. He was waving two Union Jack flags while hanging on the wire. Afterwards, he joked: “I think the brakes got stuck.”
The incident occurred when the Mayor, 48, visited the BT London Live event for the Olympics. The event was held in Victoria Park, Hackney, East London. His mishap sparked roars of laughter from the watching crowd, as well as a horde of jokes on social networking site Twitter.
Even the Mayor’s own sister Rachel Johnson joined in and said: “He’s won gold in the flying coxless wedgie.”
Comedian Chris Brosnahan also said: “Boris Johnson stuck on a zip wire holding two GB flags is, I think, what most of us were expecting the opening ceremony to be more life.
A video of the Mayor’s embarrassing moment was posted online by Twitter user HannARGH with the caption: “Boris is just hanging around in London.”
The incident toppled the two golds team GB athletes brought home that day on the headlines.
