10 of the greatest ever screen car chases
Robbery (1967)
Considering this film was made in 1967, the chase feels surprisingly fast and modern. Heavy Jags break through the streets in Peter Yates' thriller about the Great Train Robbery, all the while the cops have to relay exactly what's going on to the stuffy offices of police HQ - it's this division between speed and static that propels the action.
While the film is heavily fictionalised, its chase through London was the training ground for the director who went on to film the immortal battle of the muscle cars through San Francisco in 'Bullitt'. Putting young children under threat is usually vetoed in film, but 'Robbery' adopts a pedestrian crossing and a group of pupils to create the film's most memorable scene. See it below:
