Cult novels you need to read
'High Fidelity' by Nick Hornby (1995)
It isn't all American nightmares and icy dystopias that make up a classic cult read - Nick Hornby's British classic of love, break-ups, music and top five lists, is an inspiring, hilarious classic. It follows the life of Rob Fleming, a London record store owner who's girlfriend has just left him.
Wallowing in self-pity he re-examines his other great break-ups and finds himself again, now knowing where all of his past relationships have gone wrong. While the prospect of a film adaptation starring a bunch of Americans was at first feared, the John Cusack-led big screen version only visualises the genius that is set down by Hornby's acute observations.
