Iconic police cars
Ford Capri
If being described as a 'panda' wasn't enough to instil fear in the hard-bitten criminals on the streets, some policemen were lumbered with riding in a sandwich. The 'jam sandwich' was a term that came into common use during the 1970s to describe a white car with a red horizontal stripe across the side.
Greater Manchester police were particularly fond of the iconic Ford Capri, such as the beefy 2.8i or the 3litre great for pursuits and urban prowling alike. Meanwhile Yorkshire cops had their meal ticket in a 'lime sandwich' due to their green stripes.
