Shameless product placement on screen
The Island (2005)
In addition to being a bad, predictable film (surely, Sean Bean can't turn out to be the bad guy…), 'The Island' was also notoriously criticised for its excessive use of product placement. Scarlett Johansson and Ewan McGregor's characters are surrounded by trendy accessories and companies, topped off when Johansson sees herself in an advert for Calvin Klein.
Director Michael Bay explained that it was all for "realism" to depict a future gone ad-crazy, which is somewhat ironic given the lack of realism in the majority of his films.
