The greatest fake bands in music history
The Blues Brothers
Created by Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi in 1978 for TV variety show 'Saturday Night Live', their first album 'Briefcase Full of Blues' managed to top the charts, going double platinum. Their film debut 'The Blues Brothers' (released in 1980) was an overwhelming success, sparking a new found appreciation of blues and soul music and regained popularity for its co-stars including James Brown, Cab Calloway and Ray Charles.
While the two frontmen were only actors (Aykroyd did, however, play some blistering harmonica), the Blues Brothers managed to lure in respected professional musicians such as Steve Cropper (guitarist and co-writer of 'Sitting on the Dock of the Bay'), Donald Dunn and Steve Jordan to flesh out the group into an enduring legend in its own right.
