The lineup: Slash (Guns N' Roses), Duff McKagen (Guns N' Roses), Matt Sorum (Guns N' Roses), Dave Kushner (Wasted Youth), Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots)
The story: After the Stone Temple Pilots released their career summary compilation 'Thank You' in 2003, the band - despite once reigning over 90s rock alongside Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Nirvana - was a fractured unit. Lead singer Scott Weiland split, deciding it was time for a new group.
Many members of Guns N' Roses were feeling similar urges to go off in new directions, so the guitar, bass and drums of that seminal rock group, alongside the guitar/bass player of Wasted Youth, all found huge commercial success with Velvet Revolver. Two albums and a handful of hard rock tours later and Weiland had once again felt the urge to part ways…
