When music legends form supergroups
Audioslave
Formed: 2001-2007
The lineup: Chris Cornell (Soundgarden), Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), Tim Commerford (Rage Against the Machine), Brad Wilk (Rage Against the Machine)
The story: While the line-up was essentially Rage Against the Machine with a different vocalist (Cornell), Audioslave's sound was remarkably unique, spawning three acclaimed and successful albums, 'Audioslave', 'Out of Exile' and 'Revelations', as well as a devoted following.
Gone was the rebel yell political charges of Rage's Zach de la Rocha; in its place were Cornell's grungier virtuoso vocal twists, heavily pinned down by Morello's unmistakable effects-laden guitar crunches.
