Which smartphone is right for you?
HTC HD2
History
HTC previously shook up the Windows Mobile (WinMo) world with the launch of the Touch HD phone. However, Windows Mobile (versions 6 and below) held universal criticism.
The slicker Android-based HTC Tattoo and Hero models have already had a resounding thumbs up thanks to their Google OS and the uber cool HTC Sense user interface (UI).
The new HD2 offers all the qualities of the popular Tattoo and Hero models, wrapped in a pretty package exclusively for the Microsoft community and features the improved WinMo 6.5.
Target audience
Movie lovers will live the vast 4.3 inch screen, but business professionals are the most likely buyers, appreciative of the responsive touchscreen and connectivity options – and likely to have the pocket to fit it into.
Verdict
The HD2 is the first WinMo phone to fully support the touchscreen interface – meaning you can pinch to enlarge or shrink the screen and touch type without lag.
It is a clever piece of kit, thanks to a speedy processor, with looks to match. However, the impressively large screen is both a positive and negative – the sheer size may make many question its portability.
Though the new WinMo 6.5 OS is a vast improvement on previous versions, it still has many flaws, which, despite clever reworking by HTC, the HD2 phone has naturally inherited leaving it lagging behind.
