Police have confirmed 15-year-old school girl Megan Stammers and math teacher Jeremy Forrest, 30, who left the UK for France last week, have been found in France. This follows fears that the two could have been missing anywhere in Europe.
The hunt ended on Friday after police issued a European arrest warrant for Mr. Forrest, who has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of child abduction.
According to the BBC, there was an appeal on TV that followed the disappearance of the pair who are from Bishop Bell Church of England, Eastbourne. The search saw Interpol joining in the hunt for them.
UK police had already confirmed they are working with the French authorities, and Chief Inspector Jason Tingley, of Sussex Police, said to The Independent: “Our objectives are to identify where they are and for them to contact us, so we can bring Megan home safely.”
It is thought the girl travelled with Mr. Forrest in his black Ford Fiesta, and it is understood that travellers are able to enter many other countries from France without having to produce their passports.
CCTV footage had reportedly shown images of Megan and Mr. Forrest linked up with each other heading for a ferry in Dover at 9.30pm on Thursday 20th September, which contradicts earlier claims that the two disappeared on Friday 21st September.
Among the pleas for Meagan to come home, made by her family and loved ones on social network site Twitter, messages were also left by UK girl band ‘The Saturdays’. Wednesday saw an appeal from band member Francesca Sandford who urged Megan to make contact.
She tweeted: “Megan, on behalf of myself, Mollie, Vanessa, Una and Roch, please come home or call your mum. Everyone is so worried about you! Lots of love x”
