TV presenter Noel Edmonds had a controversial falling out with his bosses in BBC 13 years ago
after his show Noel’s House Party was axed from the tube after ratings fell. Now, however, BBC
boss Danny Cohen reportedly launched a “campaign of heavy-duty flattery” to get Noel back.
Noel had previously worked for BBC for 30 years prior to the incident in 1999. Now 63, Noel
will now front the pilot show for The Bodyguard, which is set to replace Total Wipeout.
The pilot will be filmed at the Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire later this month. Elstree Studios is
known as the studio where The Voice is made.
BBC has high hopes for the show, which is made by Endemol, the same name behind Noel’s
show on rival broadcaster Channel 4, Deal or No Deal.
Last month, it was revealed that the new show will give members of the general public a chance
to become celebrity bodyguards and will be faced with a series of challenges.
The show will air on Saturday nights, and the combination of this prime TV spot and one of
BBC’s long-time TV personalities is expected to be “a big draw for the BBC,” as Noel’s pal
describes.
