After decades of watching over the patients and staff alike, the ward sister is being wiped out in favour of more politically correct term 'ward manager' to equally reflect men and women in the role.
Hospitals across the UK have already abolished the gender specific title, as more men (known as charge nurses) take on the duties of taking care of patients and acting as a role model to the other nursing staff.
Some patients who've become used to the term are struggling to keep up with the changes and a recent poll from the Royal College of Nurses voted in favour of keeping the original title as ward manager doesn't identify them as nurses.
This is far from the first time that the nation has seen unecessary or ludicrous changes made due to not being 'politically correct'. Take a look at some of the wackiest examples seen over the years...
