Prince William and his popular wife Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, arrived on Tuesday morning at Singapore Changi airport as part of their 9-day South East Asia and South Pacific tour. News that the couple could be about to start a family originated here.
Maliki Osman, the country’s senior secretary for the ministry of defense, warmly welcomed them. The royal couple kick-start the tour that aims to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, by viewing different species of orchids that were named after the royal family.
During a walk Wills engaged in a conversation with a youngster who asked the couple how many children they would like, with the Prince reportedly answering almost immediately that he would like “two”.
At the botanic gardens, the couple saw the orchid that was named after Princess Diana. The orchid, which the people’s princess never saw, was named "Dendrobium Memoria Princess Diana" a month after the tragic car accident in Paris. The couple also had the chance to view the orchid named after Queen Elizabeth – the "Dendrobium Queen Elizabeth II"
Not to be left behind, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge also have orchid named after them -- the "Vanda William Catherine" which can be found at Singapore’s National Orchid Garden.
Singapore is known for naming orchids after important guests. In the past, they’ve named orchids after important personalities, which include Margaret Thatcher, Nelson Mandela, and Jackie Chan.
The royal couple is expected to visit Commonwealth nations of Malaysia, the Solomon Islands, and Tuvalu after their Singapore visit.
