Russell Brand arrested for assault at Los Angeles airport

Comedian Russell Brand has been arrested at a Los Angeles airport.

The controversial performer reportedly shoved a photographer out of his way, police have said.

The 35-year-old 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' and 'Get Him to the Greek' star was travelling with his fiancee, singer Katy Perry, when they became engulfed by the paparazzi.

According to a police source, one photographer placed him under citizen's arrest.

Brand was promptly released from custody after posting $20,000 (£12,800) bail.

He will face a charge of battery, although neither Brand nor his spokespeople have made any comment about the incident.

The British star's career in the States in the wake of his 'Sachsgate' BBC phone prank scandal is progressing. He is currently working on a remake of the 1982 comedy 'Arthur', in which he plays the title role originally filled by fellow British comedy icon Dudley Moore.
