Former Liberty X singer Michelle Heaton was recently rushed to the hospital after she suffered from a heart scare. Now, Heaton has revealed that she has other health problems and that they are so serious that she is even facing an 80% chance of getting cancer.
This is caused by the BRCA2 gene, which was discovered in her system and thus vastly raises her chances of contracting the dreaded disease.
Doctors say Michelle could get either ovarian or breast cancer, so the former star from Liberty X now has to choose whether to have her ovaries removed or to have a double mastectomy. Either of the two operations will help reduce the risks she is facing.
Michelle has revealed through Twitter that she has began attending counseling sessions, which will help her make up her mind. She also said: “I’ve got my first mammogram soon.”
She also expressed her appreciation for her family and friends: “I am so blessed to have such a wonderful family and amazing friends in this difficult time.” These include her husband Hugh Hanley and their baby Faith.
The discoveries about her health came as a shock since Michelle had just been vacationing with her best friend Katie Price last week. Michelle offered an explanation on Twitter, saying: “As you may or may not know, I have suffered from long and scary heart problems over the years.” Her increased risk of cancer, however, was only discovered recently.
