Born in Hackney, London, Idowu has been labelled as "the biggest favourite in Beijing" by Sweden's Christian Olsson, the very man who he beat to take the European crown.

With his trademark red hair and piercings, Idowu is certainly a character who'll stand out in Beijing. As one of few athletes recognised on the streets of the UK, this man could well become the next Linford Christie or Steve Redgrave.
