Chris Hoy came up with a surprise victory over Lewis Hamilton and Rebecca Adlington by winning the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

The triple Olympic gold medal cyclist was completely shocked but thrilled with the result. He said: "To win it this year, it's hard to express what it means - British sport has enjoyed one of its best years in my lifetime. This is the big one. When I look at the names already on this trophy, it's quite incredible."
