Based on research, the number of Brits who do no want to stop smoking is growing every year.
From 15% in 2008, this rose to alarming 22% last year. The number of smokers who are attempting to quit on the other hand has gone down from 42% to 33%.
This is the reason for the Stoptober initiative. This encourages smokers to quit for 28 days.
Based on their website, there are free support being offered to smokers and they believe that should smokers quit for 28 days, they are five times more likely to stay smoke free.
Several organizations have welcomed this initiative including electronic cigarette brand E-Lites.
However, they are calling on health chiefs to focus more on “harm reduction” by switching to less damaging alternatives.
E-Lites said: “Swapping rather than ‘stopping’ could be a more effective route for millions of smokers who are unable or unwilling to quit completely.”
