End of an era
After a five-month long battle American giant Kraft Foods has taken over Cadbury with a winning bid of £12 billion.
The beloved British chocolate brand started in 1824 when young Quaker John Cadbury, disgusted with the gin-drinking depravity of the Victoria era, wanted to offer an alternative to booze.
His recipe was an instant success and the first Cadbury factory was opened seven years later in Birmingam. Joined by sons George and Richard, the Cadbury empire grew and grew to become a global phenomenon spanning more than 60 countries...
