A Los Angeles coroner has ruled the death of Top Gun director Tony Scott as suicide. A preliminary autopsy has revealed that the death was caused by blunt force trauma and drowning, according to reports. Mr. Scott had jumped off a bridge into Los Angeles harbor two months ago.
Based on the autopsy, the director is thought to have taken anti-depressants and sleeping pills before he committed suicide. Many people have long assumed that Mr. Scott killed himself even before the autopsy report came out. This relates to the alleged suicide notes, which reportedly did not suggest any motive, that were found in his car.
Initial reports saying Mr. Scott had been suffering from terminal brain cancer are proven to be incorrect. His widow, Donna Wilson, had previously denied claims calling the report “absolutely false.”
At the time of the suicide, Scott was working on the sequel to the Tom Cruise-led Top Gun. He was also scheduled to direct Lucky Stripe and Narco Sub according to The Hollywood Reporter.
