‘Top of the Pops’ re-runs pulled by BBC over Jimmy Savile claims

Following allegations of sexual abuse by the broadcaster, the BBC has reportedly decided to pull all shows featuring the late Sir Jimmy Savile from their TV schedules. 

The affected shows are thought to include two classic editions of ‘Top of the Pops’ which are hosted by Savile, as well as a re-run of a documentary ‘The Story of Light Entertainment’.

BBC Four has been broadcasting old episodes of the iconic show every week for the past year and a half. The two archived ‘Top of the Pops’ episodes were supposed to air over the next two Thursdays but have been postponed, according to reports. 

The pulled shows could be seen to speak volumes about the BBC’s reaction to the current accusations of indecent assault that Savile is being charged with. A number of women, some of whom were allegedly underage when the said assaults took place, have come forward to reveal their stories in an ITV documentary. The documentary is understood to have attracted 1.72million viewers on October 3rd. 

A plaque at Savile’s home has also been vandalized and reportedly the words ‘rapist’ and ‘paedophile’ appear on the plaque.
