Who are the greatest female filmmakers?
Jane Campion – ‘The Piano’ (1992)
The critics are raving about her latest release (a biopic of John Keats - ‘Bright Spark’), but this is the film that rightfully cemented her reputation as both a critically acclaimed director and a visually arresting Hollywood power player to be reckoned with.
As a testament to the work, Anna Paquin became the second youngest person to ever win an Oscar (aged just 11), leading lady Holly Hunter scooped Best Actress, while Campion herself was honoured with Best Original Screenplay, making ‘The Piano’ an inspirational triumph for female filmmaking.
