Two of the X Factor's most controversial contestants have been voted off the ITV1 reality show.
Katie Waissel and Wagner Carrilho left the programme last night after performing rock songs on Saturday.
Waissel, who has been the focus of much press attention since the programme began, was first to leave, after it was announced that she had received the least amount of votes.
Wagner lost the sing-off against fellow over-25 Mary Byrne and was voted off after a unanimous decision by the judges.
Cowell seemed pleased that the 54-year-old had left the competition and that an internet campaign urging voters to keep Wagner in had failed.
The judge said: "There were people out there trying to derail this show.
"We've put this show back in the hands of the public."
All of the remaining contestants have now made it through to the programme's semi-final.
Keep up with the X Factor Saturday and Sunday nights on ITV1.
