If you’re just starting out with home automation with Apple’s Homekit, the first thing that you need to remember is to always purchase compatible accessories.
To set up your first device, turn on your location services and sign in to iCloud using your Apple ID. Next, turn on your iCloud Keychain, which will allow you to easily control additional devices. Simply tap Add Accessory and then wait for the device to appear on the screen. You then have to scan the eight-digit Homekit code that every compatible device has. You also have the option to manually enter this code.
Using an iPhone, you can organise devices together in a room, control accessories and create a screen to control multiple accessories that are in range of your wireless network. However, more advanced features require an iPad with iOS 10.3 and above or a fourth-generation Apple TV. The Apple TV is configured the same way. All you need to do is sign in to your Apple TV with your Apple ID and turn on the iCloud Keychain. The Apple TV should automatically set itself right after.
