Brunt, a Korean startup, has launched an elegant, Alexa-controlled device that can turn most blinds into automated smart blinds. Brunt Blind Engine, a fully funded campaign on Kickstarter, is priced at £75 with a planned £112 price at retail.
Blind Engine isn’t the first smart blind product on the market but it is definitely shaping up to be the best. It features a high-torque motor attached to a notched gear, which accommodates most types of string cords and ball chains. It can support blinds that are up to 6.8kg in weight and up to three meters in height and length.
The product is easy to install. Simply stick the included bracket onto a wall beside the blind, slide the blind onto the bracket, and thread the chain through the gear. It can be set up via an Android or iOS app, which also powers Brunt’s other smart products, including smart plugs and its PowerStation charger.
Using the app, the blinds can be lowered or raised. Its timer can be used if you would like the blinds to automatically open during specific times. The app is also location aware. It automatically lowers the blinds when you leave the house and raise them when you arrive.
