If you’re having difficulties connecting to a Wi-Fi network in an airport, hotel or a café, you can use your smartphone to get the coverage you need. These days, wireless data can be as reliable as regular DSL connection, allowing you download a movie before you jump on a plane or stream Netflix while waiting in a doctor’s office.
To avoid incurring additional fees, we recommend having an unlimited data plan for Wi-Fi hotspotting. On iOS, you can do this by going to Settings > Personal Hotspot. We recommend setting up a unique password to avoid unauthorised access. Then, look for that Wi-Fi hotspot name on your computer and connect using the password you have set up.
On Android, open Settings > Connections > Mobile Hotspot and Tethering and toggle Mobile Hotspot on. Just like with iOS, you’ll also need to set your network name and choose a security password. Then, on your laptop search for the hotspot and connect using the password you created.
It is that simple! With this, you can surf on your own secure Wi-Fi network. If you have a good coverage, you’ll probably cruise at faster speeds than a coffee shop’s free hotspot.
