Next Decade’s Defining Technology Trends
No matter how hard we try, we cannot escape the evolution of technology. In fact, it is what drives and defines many of the past, present and future decades. As the world reaches a major turning point in terms of smart cities and automated homes, the next few years will be crucial to technological development around the world.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the emerging technology trends that are set to define the next decade for us.
The Internet of Things (IoT)
The Internet of Things refers to the ever-increasing number of smart devices that are connected to the internet. These devices are constantly gathering and transmitting data right from the palms of our hands and are doing so at an exceptional rate.
As the IoT continues to expand, our devices are further fuelling the growth in big data and artificial intelligence (AI). In a cycle that is on track to explode soon, the faster the growth in big data and AI continues, the faster we will need newer, more efficient devices that in turn will again continue to fuel the growth of AI concepts.
Artificial Intelligence And Machine Learning
Almost every machine surrounding us has the ability to learn our habits and act intelligently. This includes everything from our mobile phones to our sprinkler and thermostat systems. The increasingly ability that machines have to do this will absolutely transform the world rapidly within the next few years.
AI is also the driving force behind many other technology trends and forecasts, and this has only been further exacerbated by the global COVID-19 pandemic. While we learnt to social distance and rely on machines more and to touch things less, devices started to demonstrate that they serve a role that goes beyond just connectivity – they can serve as a lifeline as well.
Digital Twins
In simple terms, a digital twin refers to a digital copy of a physical object, process, product or ecosystem. Digital twin technology allows us to try out any alterations and adjustments that would otherwise be too expensive or too risky to try on the real physical object. It also saves plenty of time in terms of traditional methods of trial and error and makes for excellent collaborative project prototypes.
In other words, digital twins help us see things and make alterations to them without needing to insert significant capital, waste valuable time or even meet up in person. As the world continues on its path to a more ‘home office’ friendly working environment, it seems set that digital twins become the next big thing.
Natural Language Processing
Natural language processing technologies help machines better understand human language. Over the past few years, through operating systems like iOS and Android, we have seen a significant rise in human-machine interaction. Whether its asking for eSports betting Australia results or measurements for a recipe, voice and text search options online are growing.
As we grow increasingly comfortable with speaking or typing our requests to devices and chatbots, businesses are likely to follow by offering customers more options in terms of voice interfaces and chatbots.
