Facebook has announced its partnership with the MLB allowing the giant social networking site to live stream a number of regular season games. It has also signed a deal with global esports company ESL to offer 5,550 hours of esports events and other original content including 1,500 original programming.
Facebook is taking on Amazon-owned Twitch as well as Twitter both of which have esports deal. In March, Twitter has announced that it has partnered with ESL and DreamHack to live stream 15 events from the ESL One, DreamHack circuits, and Intel Extreme Masters directly through the Twitter app.
Twitch, on the other hand, remains today’s de facto home for esports content. In June, a report has claimed that over 100 million Twitch users had live streamed 800 million hours of esports in the last ten months on the service.
Meanwhile, Facebook’s deal will see the networking site streaming content live from the Rank S competitions next month. This will be followed by 30-minute weekly Counter Strike:Global Offensive weekly show that will feature the top players, upcoming talent, and other competition highlights.
