Elon Musk is one of the many big names in the field of technology who wants to put people on Mars. The SpaceX CEO wants to send one million people to Mars, which is equivalent to the population of some of the largest cities in the world.
Those who make it to Mars will undoubtedly look for ways to communicate to their loved ones back home. One of the best solutions is Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). It is very feasible as every piece of equipment on Mars will be networked and these would definitely include the phones.
Aside from network, other reasons to choose VoIP as communications solutions for people in Mars are Codecs, which are a combination of coder/decoders that convert audio/audio signals into a compressed digital format for transmission, then reverts it back to uncompressed audio when it reaches the receiver.
Other technology that is expected to be taken advantage of in Mars is software defined networking (SDN). This technology offers amazing benefits including improved quality of service for a higher user experience, better bandwidth management, high-quality video support, lower packet loss and latency for a higher quality voice experience.
