ITV producers have axed PC Tony Stamp from 'The Bill' after 22 years on screen.
PC Stamp, played by actor Graham Cole, is the police drama's longest running character.
However 'The Bill' is being re-launched at a later time, with more hard-hitting storylines and producers have decided that the character "doesn't fit" the show's "new 'dynamic'".
Cole revealed the departure in an email to his fan site 'Stampers' where he wrote: "I cannot tell you how disappointed and disregarded I feel."

He added that "the door has been left open to come back for odd episodes."
Cole was first seen on screen as PC Stamp in 1987. He will be a part of the launch of the later show but will leave shortly after.
Executive producer Jonathan Young said: "Graham is a much-loved and admired member of cast.
"He has contributed an enormous amount to The Bill and we are grateful for his enthusiasm and support over the years. PC Tony Stamp leaves an amazing legacy."
