The Voice winner Leanne Mitchell gets yet another victory now that a Webber has signed up to put together her debut album. However, it won’t be Lord Lloyd Webber himself, but his son Alistair, now A&R main man at Island Records.
According to sources, the young music exec “has a great ear for music and is well-versed in the business.”
Leanne’s label, Island Records, is said to have big plans for the singer and therefore needs to get her first ever album right.
Alistair has quite a weight on his shoulders, though, considering how Leanne’s performance in the entertainment industry has not been stellar. Her debut single, Run To You, was an uncontested flop, and even got trounced by ‘Sing’ the Diamond Jubilee track of Andrew, who co-wrote it with Gary Barlow of Take That.
The song ‘Run To You’ only made it to no. 27, despite expectations that it would top the charts following Leanne’s victory at the BBC One talent show. Unfortunately, it did not even score a Top 5. Even Bo Bruce, runner-up to Leanne, made it to no. 5 with her EP, Search the Night.
Aside from being a heavy blow to Leanne herself, it was also a blow to The Voice, who is topped by X Factor in terms of chart-topping creations. So far, every winner of the X Factor has bagged a no. 1 at the charts.
