A new research has found that eating cheese everyday does not raise your cholesterol levels and can even be beneficial.
This contradicts current health guidelines that encourage people to steer clear from foods high in saturated fats because they increase levels of cholesterol in blood particularly LDL cholesterol. Experts said that the substance, which is found in the blood and helps the body to function properly, can stick to the walls of the arteries and restrict blood flow if there’s too much of it in the bloodstream.
Researchers from University College Dublin conducted the study and examined the impact of dairy foods on 1,500 participants.
Study author Dr Emma Feeney said: 'What we saw was that in the high consumers they had a significantly higher intake of saturated fat than the non-consumers and the low consumers and yet there was no difference in their LDL cholesterol levels.
'We have to consider not just the nutrients themselves but also the matrix in which we are eating them in and what the overall dietary pattern is.
'So not just about the food then, but the pattern of other foods we eat with them as well.'
