£500 For Middlesbrough Residents to Buy CCTV

Middlesbrough residents living in areas with higher levels of crime to get £500 grant to buy CCTV.

Middlebrough Council is giving a £500 grant to residents who are willing to install CCTV cameras in their properties. The scheme, which will initially involve 20 households, is a bid to deter crime and antisocial behaviour. 

 

Mayor Andy Preston said: "Decent and honest Middlebrough families share my determination to drive troublemakers away. Fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour should be the enemy of everyone who cares about Middlesbrough. 

 

"CCTV will help us catch offenders red-handed and make others think twice before committing crime that brings our town down. 

 

"I get asked all the time about cameras and I know not everyone can afford their own equipment. This scheme gives people the power to protect their property and is a solid example of the council working with local people to improve their community." 

 

In order to qualify, applicants must live in the Middlesbrough Council boundary. Priority will be given to households in areas with higher levels of crime. Meanwhile, businesses may also apply but would have to make a contribution to the cost.
