5G is available Manchester but not all residents will be able to enjoy the benefits that the technology offers. In order to access speeds that are up to 10 times faster than 4G, customers will need to invest on a new 5G-ready phone.
EE launched 5G in London, Cardiff, Belfast, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Manchester. The service will also be made available to more UK sites before the end of the year and into 2020. These include Bristol, Glasgow, Coventry, Hull, Leeds, Leicester, Newcastle, Sheffield and Nottingham.
A number of 5G-capable handsets are available from OnePlus, Samsung, LG, HTC and Oppo. Huawei has been excluded from the list due to the ongoing tensions between the US and the Chinese company.
EE chief executive Marc Allera said it had decided to "pause" the sale of Huawei 5G phones "until we get the information and confidence and the long-term security that our customers - when they buy those devices - are going to be supported for the lifetime that they've got the device with us".
Meanwhile, Vodafone has also confirmed that it will launch 5G across seven UK cities on July 3, with another 12 cities to follow by the end of the year.
