Life is challenging sometimes, but there are useful hacks that can make a big difference. If you’ve ever been frustrated by small things and wondered if there was an easier way, this article is for you.
- Disinfect Legos in the dishwasher
Kids love stacking block toys, like Legos, but there are so many pieces to clean. With the help of a nylon laundry bag, they can be sanitized in the dishwasher. As long as the bag zips fully closed and doesn’t have holes, you can put your child’s block toys inside and put the bag on the top rack of the dishwasher. When the wash cycle is done, take them out and let them air dry.
- Luxury cars can be repaired locally
If you’ve always wanted a luxury car, like a BMW or Mercedes, but you’ve never liked the idea of going to the dealer for repairs, there’s a better way. Despite what you may have been told, luxury cars can be repaired locally at a repair shop that specializes in your make. You still get access to highly skilled technicians, but it’s more affordable and often closer to home. Also, some local repair shops use OE parts, which should give you peace of mind.
- Fatwood will get your fires going faster
Whether you’re building a fire at a campsite or in your fireplace or wood stove, building fires is an art. You have to get the right kind of wood, the wood has to be dry and seasoned, and you need tinder and kindling to get it going.
Using fatwood will get your fires burning hotter much faster than using typical kindling or tinder, like sticks, cardboard tubes, and newspaper. Fatwood is just wood filled naturally with resin and cut into small pieces. Some brands of fatwood also treat their wood with chemicals to enhance its efficacy.
As a bonus tip, if you use newspaper to start fires, don’t crumple up single sheets – it’s a waste. They’ll burn too fast to make a difference. Instead, fold a few sheets into a long tube and then tie it into a knot to get a nice, thick chunk of newspaper. It will burn longer, which is what you need to get a fire going.
- Use a pool noodle to fill buckets
When you need to fill a bucket that won’t fit under your sink, it doesn’t make sense to use small cups. But sometimes you don’t have a choice – unless you use a pool noodle. It looks silly, but attaching a pool noodle to your sink and then placing the other end into a bucket is a fast and easy way to fill it with water.
- Stash your money in a lip balm tube
Going somewhere that requires you to be separated from your belongings for any amount of time can make you feel nervous about having your wallet or cash stolen. You don’t have to worry about that when you put your cash in an empty lip balm tube. For example, when you go to the beach and leave your belongings on your blanket, nobody’s going to steal your lip balm.
You won’t be able to fit a lot of money in a lip balm tube, but if you roll up your bills tightly enough, you can keep more than enough on hand for the day’s activities.
- Use a spaghetti noodle to light your candles
Without a long BBQ lighter, it’s nearly impossible to light a jar candle that has burned down pretty far. Matches and lighters won’t work. However, if you have spaghetti noodles on hand, you can light the end of a raw noodle and use that to light your candle.
- Lint roll your cloth lampshades
You’ve probably noticed that lampshades attract dust, pet hair, and dirt like a magnet. If the shades happen to be white or light colored, it looks awful. A good hack for this is using a lint roller to pick up all the dust and hair. It’s better than trying to wipe it down with a dry paper towel, which doesn’t get much of anything.
- Tape your dustpan to the floor to clean up broken glass
Sweeping up glass isn’t easy. Small shards will be left behind, even with the best dustpan. To solve this issue, tape the edge of your dustpan to the floor and then sweep up the glass. The tape will seal the small gap and nothing will be left behind.
Simple hacks make life easier
You don’t have to do anything the hard way. If you look hard enough, you’ll find a shortcut for just about everything.
