Adele’s ‘21’ album is once again the best-selling record in the US. The album, which sold 5.8 copies in 2011, sold another 4.4 million copies in 2012 grabbing the top spot for 2 years in a row.
The album, which includes hits like Someone Like You and Rolling in the Deep, is the first album to top the sales chart for two years in a row since 1991 when Nielsen Soundscan began tracking US album sales.
Other artist who made it to top 5 is Taylor Swift, the lone US singer who made it to the list. Her album ‘Red’ sold 3.1 millions copies. One Direction grabbed third and fifth spot for ‘Up All Night’ and ‘Take Me Home,’ respectively. Mumford and Sons took the 4th spot with ‘Babel’ which sold 1.5 million copies.
Keith Caulfield, associate director of charts at Billboard magazine knew what brought Adele success. He said: "She really crossed over from pop to Latin to adult contemporary to dance. Young and old consumers bought it, and because of its mixture of fans, she was able to sell it as well as she did."
