With the growing number of road accidents being associated with the use of mobile phones, an AI-enhanced speed camera has been designed that can catch people who are using their phones while behind the wheel. The camera then notifies the authorities. The camera, which comes from a collaboration between Movidius and Chinese security camera maker, Hikvision, can also identify car models and even detect whether or not the occupants are wearing seatbelts.
The futuristic technology can also be used to monitor intruders trying to access secure locations and individuals who are leaving suspicious packages.
Remi El-Ouazzane, CEO of Movidius, said: 'Advances in artificial intelligence are revolutionizing the way we think about personal and public security.
'The ability to automatically process video in real-time to detect anomalies will have a large impact on the way cities' infrastructures are being used.'
Hu Yangzhong, CEO of Hikvision, said: 'There are huge amounts of gains to be made when it comes to neural networks and intelligent camera systems.
'We're able to make our analytics offerings much more accurate, flagging more events that require a response, while reducing false alarms.'
