Alexa Technology Trialled in Glasgow Hotel
Worq Hospitality claims to being the first in Europe to trial its own Alexa devices.

Worq Hospitality announced the integration of a customized Alexa system at its Revolver Hotel in Europe, marking the first commercial use of this technology in the region. The devices are programmed to handle various hotel-related inquiries and accept orders through voice commands, enhancing guest convenience. The introduction of this technology aligns with Worq's commitment to staying at the forefront of the hospitality sector's technological advancements.
In addition to the Alexa system, Worq developed a proprietary mobile app for Revolver, created by Nonius Mobile at a cost of £10,000. The app enables guests to remotely check in and provides information about the LGBTQ-friendly hotel and the city of Glasgow. Jonathan Doherty, managing director of Worq Hospitality, expressed satisfaction with these investments, emphasizing the growing significance of technology in the hospitality industry.
Inspired by experiences in the United States, where similar technology was prevalent in hotels, Mr. Doherty sought to incorporate this state-of-the-art system into his hotel portfolio. Despite initial challenges in obtaining the device in Europe, the trial at Revolver has received positive feedback. Plans for further improvements include allowing guests to book events, exercise classes, or massages, expanding the system's capabilities.
Revolver, part of Worq's diverse hospitality portfolio, offers a variety of accommodations, from dormitory beds to double and triple rooms. The hotel aims to create a safe and enjoyable experience, particularly for solo and female travelers. Future investments in Revolver include a £25,000 project to install a rooftop hot tub and gym.
Looking ahead, Worq plans to establish additional Revolver hotels across the UK, with one slated to open in Edinburgh in the second quarter of 2024. Mr. Doherty highlighted the appeal of repurposing old office buildings for their diverse accommodation options, aligning with the company's vision of providing budget-friendly yet stylish and comfortable lodging for young travelers who prioritize both travel and fashion.
