Blues singer Koko Taylor has dies aged 80, her record label has confirmed.
Taylor, dubbed 'the queen of blues, died in hospital following complications after having surgery.
The singer, known for her best-selling hit 'Wang Dang Doodle', was one of few women who were highly successful in a male dominated genre of music.
Blues singer and musician Ronnie Baker Brooks said of her death: "The passion that she brought and the fire and the growl in her voice when she sang was the truth.
"The music will live on, but it's much better because of Koko. It's a huge loss."
Taylor had recorded nine albums, won a Grammy, 29 Blues Music Awards and was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts medal for her contribution to American music.
She is survived by a daughter, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
