Up to 14,000 homes in Burton will soon have access to ultrafast broadband – thanks to Virgin Media’s Project Lightning network expansion programme that aims to bring speeds up to 362Mbps to residents and small businesses around the UK.
The project is on track to take place in Burton where the current average speed is 20.2Mbps. This means that users will be able to download a standard HD movie file of 5G in under two minutes, compared to more than 35 minutes on the average local connection.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2019. Construction work to roads in the area has already taken place and is set to continue into October.
Julie Agnew, executive director for Virgin Media's Project Lightning, said: "We are delighted to be connecting more families and small businesses in Burton to our brilliant broadband service."
