Craig's Bournemouth escape

09:30 06 June 2006
'Coronation Street' schoolboy Craig Harris is to leave Weatherfield for a
new life in Bournemouth after he and his grandfather are driven away by Charlie Stubbs.
It was revealed yesterday (05.06.06) that actor Richard Fleeshman, who plays the hunky teen, is quitting the soap to launch a pop career, after impressing with his singing talents during his stint on ITV talent show 'Soapstar Superstar'.
The 17-year-old star's character Craig and his grandfather Keith will exit the show after bullying builder Charlie, actor Bill Ward, makes their lives a misery in revenge for an unpaid bill.
The workman's campaign of intimidation will be so extreme that Keith, played by 55-year-old actor Ian Redford, will end up having a heart attack which nearly kills him.
The pair end up homeless after Charlie buys the house they are renting and evicts them after giving them just 24 hours to find a new place.
Craig desperately tries to barricade himself inside the house but the vicious villain will smash his way in and kick him out.
A 'Street' insider told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "It will be a sad moment when Craig leaves the show because Richard is so popular.
"The script shows once again that Charlie is the worst of bullies."
However, despite his decision to leave, bosses are leaving the door open for Richard to return to the soap whenever he likes in the future.
