Russell Crowe has apologised to the New York hotel worker he assaulted with a telephone.
The 'Gladiator' actor - who is being sued by porter Nestor Estrada for a reported £1million - blamed the incident on "the combination of jet lag, loneliness and adrenalin".
Crowe, who freaked out when he couldn't get in touch with his wife and son back home in Australia, admitted: "I'm in a lot of trouble now. I'm at the bottom of a well. I can't communicate how dark my life is right now. I will spend the rest of my life, if it takes it, trying to make it up with my wife. I'm very sorry for my actions."
Crowe revealed he lashed out after discovering his hotel room phone wasn't working, adding: "Not being able to tell you're wife you're safe is frustrating. I know it's my fault. I'll cop whatever I have to cop. I wasn't aiming at him, but I've got no excuse."
Estrada is taking civil action against the Hollywood heavyweight for compensation over his injuries.
On Monday (06.06.06), Crowe was charged at Manhattan Criminal Court with second degree assault and possession of a weapon - a reference to the telephone - for hurling the handset at the porter.
