Govroam Enables Zero Touch Wifi
Govroam to make zero touch access to WiFi possible.
20:29 14 January 2018
Govroam, a new service that enables multiple organisations to share a physical connection and connect over a single standardised network, will make “zero touch” WiFi access possible. The service will benefit government employees who have to travel to different public services’ buildings. The new service eliminates the need to identify the correct network, source the password and log in, which take a lot of time and effort.
Govroam is already being used in Leeds and part of the Yorkshire and Humberside Public Services Network. A new lobby group, called Connectivity Over London, is now pushing for the use of govroam and its sister service for the education sector eduroam, across the capital. It aims to link hundreds of universities and public-sector locations.
Eduroam currently supports 1.6 million unique roaming devices each month. It is operated by Jisc, which has produced a film, a podcast and an animation about govroam.
