Free public WiFi will be coming to the town and city centres of Harrogate and Ripon ahead of the UCI Road World Championships scheduled later this year.
Harrogate Borough Council cabinet members are set to appoint an operator to install the service by September this year. According to the advertisement on the Official Journal of the European Union, the provider will install and operate outdoor public access WiFi across the mandatory coverage areas of Harrogate, Knaresborough an Ripon – with Boroughbridge, Masham and Pateley Bridge to be incorporate if or when viable.
The rollout would enable both residents and visitors to the UCI Road World Championship to connect to the Internet when races pass through the district’s population centres.
The council is yet to announce the cost of the project but confirmed that it will be funded by the Leeds City Region Rates Pool, with the remainder to come from the council’s ICT Development Plan.
