HBO Max Announces UK Rollout Plan, Bringing Back a Fan-Favourite That Left Netflix in December
HBO Max launches in the UK on 26 March, bringing its full catalogue and the hit series Friends back after leaving Netflix in December 2025.

In the UK, HBO’s prestigious TV shows have primarily been funnelled to audiences through the premium TV provider Sky. On Sky Atlantic, UK viewers can either stay up and watch new releases alongside American audiences, or see a more suitable premiere that evening.
It’s somewhat of a surprise that it’s taken until 2026 for HBO Max to arrive in the UK as one the many, many streaming options. Few could compete with the quality of their back catalogue and active TV slate, plus they’re powered by Warner Bros. Discovery and all of their iconic IPs and films.
Later this year, HBO Max will launch in the UK, bringing back a long-time favourite that recently left its main competitor.
A Huge Selling Point for British Audiences
The appeal of the TV show Friends in the UK cannot be understated. Big in its original medium, it has such pulling power that Friends is now a major online casino slots series. Looking to appease the show’s original audience from the 1990s, Friends: The One with the Multi Drop entered the casino scene and immediately hit the ground running
Featuring the four main characters, the massive turkey, the Central Perk sofa, and the lobster, it’s teeming with sights and sounds from the hit show. Building on it further, Friends: The One with the Rolling Respins offers a new take on the original slot, infusing a new core feature while changing the setting of the game.
These two slots landed in 2025, with them being so successful that a third is hot on the way. Aside from the episodes in Las Vegas, slots don’t have much to do with Friends. Yet, the show continues to be so popular that the IP can seemingly continue to do very well with British audiences regardless of the entertainment medium.
Bringing Friends Back to Britain
The show never returned to Britain after the few special episodes for Ross’ would-be wedding, but it seems that even when Friends leaves British streaming, it’s not gone for long. In preparation for HBO Max, the company let Netflix’s rights expire at the end of 2025, ending a ten-year run of absolute on-demand Friends for UK fans.
It became Netflix’s most rewatched series, captivating whole new audiences and letting fans of the original run relive the laughs. Friends leaving didn’t go over well, even though there are ways to catch Friends on free-to-view TV channels. Gone in December, it’ll come roaring back in March.
It’s been a long time coming, but HBO Max will finally launch in the UK on 26 March. The whole HBO and Warner Bros. Discover catalogue will be available on-demand to subscribers from between £4.99 and £14.99 per month. It seems as though HBO Max will become a Sky add-on and Atlantic will stop showing new releases.
The continued pulling power of Friends in the UK is clearly very well-known by HBO, which is why they pulled it from Netflix in time for the launch of Max. Luckily, fans don’t have to wait long for its grand return.
