Experiencing lag and dropped frames can really ruin your gaming experience. With that said, that doesn’t mean that you should give up on your gaming dreams. At the end of the day, there are also a lot of things you can do to try and enhance or even boost your computer’s performance.
Turn on Hardware GPU
This is great for PCs that have slower CPUs. Of course, GPU scheduling works in a very different way, as it offloads CPU processes, such as buffering, from your CPU. It then transfers this to your system. This is a very niche setting at the end of the day, but it is also one of the best ways for you to try and boost the performance of your PC, if that’s something you feel as though you are struggling with. When most people build a gaming PC, they tend to like a lot of it to be around, maximizing the GPU and CPU. With that said, if you use GPU scheduling, then you will soon find that this is an incredibly useful feature, and it means you don’t have to worry about the combination of having a strong GPU or a weak CPU, or vice-versa. If you want to boost the performance of certain titles, then this is great to say the least.
Change your Plan
If you want to try to improve the power plan of your PC, then you should know that this is a group of settings that control and even fine-tune how your computer uses power. This can be across different hardware, so you need to keep this in mind. One thing to know is that you ultimately have the choice between a lot of different power plans, whether you choose the power balanced setting or the power saver. Things like this will bottleneck your performance when gaming, but they will help your PC to stay cooler, and they will also help you to make sure that you are not pushing it too hard. If you have an older PC, then changing the setting to high performance can be a good idea. It’s a great way for you to make sure that you are not struggling when you don’t need to, as there could be a really simple solution that you can take advantage of.
Plug and Play
Another good thing to do would be for you to try to plug in while you play. Believe it or not, if you have an older gaming laptop, then this can be a good way for you to get your device a little more power. If your device is not plugged in, then it is with absolute certainty that you will experience a drop in power. This is because when your laptop is not plugged in, your PC will try to conserve energy, and this means your laptop will last for a little longer. Although this is good, you do need to make sure that you are giving your device the chance to stretch its legs from time to time. If you can do this, you will see a big improvement in your device, and you will also find that things end up working out better for you.
Play Smaller Games
Another good thing you can do is try to play smaller games. The best thing about playing smaller games is that it allows you to avoid pushing your PC too hard, which is great to say the least. If you have played games before but found that your PC is starting to struggle with them, then this is a great workaround as it allows you to push the limits of what your PC can do, and it also means you don’t have to worry as much about everything else. If you want some smaller games that still have a lot of strategy, then it’s worth exploring titles like solitaire, as this helps you to focus on the moves you want to make, just as you would in a full RPG game. With that said, titles like this have way lower graphic requirements, so you don’t have to worry about that as much.
Clean your PC
Another good thing to do would be for you to try to clean your PC. If your PC is caked with dust, or if you haven’t opened it up in a while, then now is the time for you to try and do something about that. It may be that you try to clean your PC out or that you try to clean it on a regular basis. If you can do this, then you will find it easier to unblock your PC’s ventilation, and you can also decrease the blockage. If you increase airflow, then this will keep your PC’s temperatures low, especially when gaming, and this is great to say the least. If you can clean out your PC on a regular basis, then this will make sure that it’s always running at peak performance.
Apply Thermal Paste
It’s also important that you take the time to apply some thermal paste. High temperatures can kill performance, but one thing you can do to work around this would be for you to try and re-apply thermal paste from time to time. This will stop any overheating issues, which could be one of the reasons why your PC is bottlenecked a lot. Of course, if you apply thermal paste to your CPU, which is accessible on the motherboard, then this will help a lot, but at the same time, if you notice that there are other issues with thermal paste, then dealing with this will help you a lot, so be sure to keep this in mind.
So as you can see, it’s very easy for you to improve the performance of your gaming PC, and if you follow this guide, you should see a definite improvement. Why not see if you can rescue your PC today and make a positive change?
