Yesterday, Katie Holmes made her first public appearance since she filed for divorce from Tom Cruise. She was scheduled to appear on the show Project Runway: All Stars. Despite looking noticeably more relaxed, although her team of beefy bodyguards sent the opposite message.
The three heavyset bodyguards were from the company Blue Steel security, and seem to be Katie’s response to reports that she is being watched. The men, who raised concerns among Katie’s neighbours in her New York apartment, were believed to be members of the church of Scientology, Tom Cruise’s controversial religion. However, since Katie was not the one who made the call, law enforcement refused to take any action.
The armed men, who still remain unidentified, were pictured sitting inside a white Cadillac Escalade while questioning people outside the apartment building and taking pictures. Members of the media who approached the car to inquire as to their intentions were met with nothing but silence. Even police officers who checked the car’s number plates and questioned the men were not able to elicit proper answers.
As the divorce proceedings continue, reports say that Cruise asked Holmes to fly to Iceland for his birthday bash, but she declined the offer.
While many believe they were Scientology members, some people also speculate that Tom hired the men to keep tabs on Katie. This speculation seems more likely now that a lawyer for the church of Scientology has clarified that the organization is “not following Katie or conducting surveillance on her in the wake of her divorce with Tom Cruise.”
